What Does Your Logo Mean?

The Logo

When you look at my logo above, what do you see? “I see a shield,” you say? Indeed. But it may surprise you that there is more. Much more. And it has meaning. Here we go:

The Shield

The first image is the shield. This is reminiscent of “the shield of faith” in Ephesians 6:16, which we are called to take up. I long for my life to be characterized by faith (trust) in what God has said. I want to be willing to enter the fray, knowing God has called me to courageous action. And I want to prod others to walk by faith in Him. He is worthy of our trust and is our sure defense.

The Nib

Second, the shield is reimagined as the nib of a fountain pen, since my blog is devoted to the power of words (communication), and in particular, the power of God’s Word. You can see the outline of the nib and the vertical line with the circle on top – just like a fountain pen. This nib gently reminds me (as a writer) that “the pen is mightier than the sword of misused power.

Hilt of Sword

Third, above the shield is the hilt of a sword (with a diamond on top). The blade is hidden behind the shield. This image reminds me that the “sword of the Spirit is the Word of God” (Ephesians 6:17). This blog is devoted to God's Word, our primary weapon to victory. Together, the sword and shield denote we're in a battle, but His power is available for every situation.

Family Crest

Fourth, the diagonal band across the shield suggests a family crest. The Christian is no longer an estranged orphan, but a rescued and adopted member of God's family. In Christ, we have become children of God (John 1:12), members of His household (Ephesians 2:19), and brothers to our Lord Jesus! (Hebrews 2:11). This is our eternal heritage.

Fifth, the words “God Can” mean that “God is able to do more than we imagine” (Ephesians 3:20) and “nothing is impossible for Him” (Jeremiah 32:17; Genesis 18:14; Matthew 19:26). Though most assent to these words, it is rare to meet the Christian who daily lives by them.

Finally, the words “God Cares” may be the most startling, delightful truth of all. Despite our inner ugliness and rebellion, God says he loves his own. “Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on him, because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:6-7).

There you have it. There's more to a Logo that you imagined!
